In the premier episode of Growing Local, Making Wild Maine Blueberry Muffins, photographer/director Jennifer Smith-Mayo takes us on a epicurean adventure on the downeast coast of Maine, USA, in which she attempts to create a sumptuous wild Maine blueberry muffin out of local Maine ingredients. The idea first sprang from a desire to enter the Blue Hill Fair Wild Maine Blueberry Muffin Contest, and enter something different, a muffin unique to Maine. . . .

Growing Local seeks to create awareness across cultures of the importance of using local foods. Jennifer created the series to examine traditional but popular regional recipes and to adapt them for use with only local ingredients. Each episode of the series documents—through still photography, ambient sound, and audio interviews—not only the creation of the adapted recipe, but also traces the ingredients’ origins and researches the current status of the region’s local food movement.
